The DS-9100 also comes equipped with a built-in stereo microphone that provides versatile recording options for dictation and conferences. You can tailor your recording experience further by selecting from three microphone sensitivity options: High sensitivity for crisp conference recordings, Mid for effective dictation, or Low for optimal up-close recording.
The device incorporates low-noise omni-directional microphones that are built with a shock absorber to reduce handling noise from the body. The Intelligent Two-microphone System utilizes the omni-directional microphones to analyze phase differences from sound sources. Using unique Audio Beamforming algorithms, the DS-9100 suppresses sound from specific directions, reducing noise from the back and sides significantly, and focusing on the speaker during dictation. This dramatically improves sound quality for speech recognition, even in challenging environments.
The DS-9100 is a high-quality digital voice recorder that offers versatile recording options for various situations. The device comes with two microphones that can be adjusted to record in omni-directionality mode for classic dictation of notes or reports. It also features a conference recording function that controls the microphones' directionality into a 90° layout, enabling high-quality recording in a realistic stereo capture suitable for interviews and small meetings.
The DS-9100 supports two audio file formats: the DSS format and the PCM format. The DSS format allows for effective compression without compromising quality, and it enables quick file editing, collaboration, and automatic processing using meta information like index, verbal comments, and worktypes. The PCM format provides minimal compression, ensuring exceptional quality and compatibility with various playback tools. The widely utilized MP3 format is also supported, making it an excellent choice for storing consumer audio and enabling easy transfer/playback of music on digital audio players.
The device features a VCVA function that efficiently manages memory by pausing recording during quiet intervals and automatically restarting when it detects sound exceeding a preset threshold. This feature optimizes playback efficiency and prolongs recording time. You can also insert up to 32 Index Marks into an audio file while recording or playing back, helping you identify crucial or noteworthy segments of your dictation.
The DS-9100 provides added security with AES encryption when utilized alongside the DSS Pro file format, ensuring user data remains protected from unauthorized access, enhancing confidentiality, and complying with industry standards for secure audio recording. The device's Device Lock feature secures data with a 4-digit PIN, keeping it inaccessible to unauthorized users. Its data loss prevention function activates a read-only mode when connected to a PC, preventing accidental data copying and enhancing security.
The device also features a 2.4 inch TFT colour LCD that displays a live recording monitor and an easily accessible, intuitive menu system—all at a glance. The user-friendly optical slide-switch allows you to start, stop, and edit recordings seamlessly without diverting your attention to the device.
With 2GB of built-in memory, the DS-9100 accommodates external SD cards up to 32GB (available separately). You can easily transfer your recordings to your PC by utilizing the provided micro-B USB cable. Additionally, headphones can be connected to monitor or playback your recordings via the 3.5mm jack, and additional microphones such as boundary, shotgun or a lavalier can be used for specific situations.
The DS-9100's Lithium-ion battery provides an impressive 56 hours of battery life and is rechargeable by connecting it to a PC or a compatible USB charger. The device facilitates user identification with Author ID embedded in the audio file header, enabling personalized dictation tracking. It supports multiple work IDs for shared devices, and users can define custom work types such as "case notes" or "patient consultation" for various dictation needs.
